Market Report Transaction Average

Goats and hair sheep are sold by head.  Wool sheep are sold by # or CWT.  Pairs are a doe or ewe with one or more kids or lambs.  They sell for one money for the pair.  Our market report reports all that sold not just the best ones as some markets post.   This is prices last sale.  Next sale may be lower or higher.

We appreciate all our customers and if your local market has recently closed we welcome you to our sale.  Or if you are not happy where you have been selling come give us a try.  We are picking up new customers from all over.  We thank those of you who are spreading the word.

This last weekend we had 100+ items in consignment sale and 66 head in livestock sale. The no’s were low but spring shows, crazy  weather and school sports activities. Things picked up about 2:30.  Also its kidding and lambing time and things are always slow in Jan and Feb.  Also there are no ethnic holidays right now if no’s weren’t down all over I think prices would have dropped.  But demand still there for goat and lamb meat.  Good breeding stock is still bringing good prices.  March picks up when lambing and kidding is usually over and we start having ethnic holidays that want goat and sheep meat.

With so small of groups and varing quality market flucuations not really a good test.  We had a lite crowd but active buyers. March and April usually pick up once the weather gets better.

The average price takes ALL into account not just the best ones. Weight, amount of meat on the frame, health, looks, market demand, age, and color even makes a difference. A nanny’s bag makes a difference.  It is an auction and what ever someone will give is what it sells for. If there was nothing in the group last sale to compare to the listing is NT- no test or if not a good comparison such as 1-2 hd it is listed as NGT not a good test.

Pygmy listing is for pygmy, Nigerian DWF and mini goat breeds.

Not a very good test as no’s this sale were so lite. Prices on good animals still good.  Nannys dropped but last sale we had several exceptional dapples, some pairs.  Pygmies were up but not a good test as 2 last sale and 22 this sale and 1 pair.

for your information.  I was told this one time at a seminar.  ---1 look at goats back.  If the backbone looks like the knuckles on your fist it’s too skinny.  ---2 look across fingers.  This goat is just right.  Look across the back of your hand.  if this goat’s back looks like this it’s too fat.

This is selling for meat.  And look for upcoming holidays and see what is desired.  If you have a 40# goat and they want 40 pounds this is the time to sell. Don’t wait till it’s 60# and upcoming holidays want 40# again or maybe its one they want 100# goat. If you are looking for breeding stock there are other factors to look for. goat and sheep holidays
