I have had the most wonderful last 9+ years. On July 21, 2000 I found my birth parents names and started tracking.  Unfortunately both my Dad and Mom were gone but I have found siblings, aunts and uncles and lots of cousins. They have been so nice and accepting . I feel that I have known them all my life. My experience has been very pleasurable although I know quite often they are not.  I am thankful to finally find the medical information I needed and so many super wonderful people in the process.  I spent very little money in my search- quite a bit of time on the Internet and phone. Oklahoma laws are very archaic.  In one county you can get information and another you can’t find out anything. It needs to be standardized and not let the local Judges interpret it as they see fit.  Apply through the county at the Court clerk where you were adopted to get the information on your birth parents.

I did not realize that DHS had an Adoption Registry available when I first started this. It was through the insistence of the lady that works there for me to pursue getting my records open although the registry did not help me directly finding them but could have had my Mother ever registered trying to find me. This service would be of more help to those placed through DHS services. But I would suggest that as a starting place for anyone.  Cost was $20.00   You have to wait 6 months and then for $400 they will search for you.  Try it on your own first. You can find out a lot in 6 months and for a lot less.

Just remember you knew nothing before and if it doesn’t work out you are no further in the dark than you were before. But be ready for more rejection. You never know what can happen.  Hopefully you can find some medical information even if there is no reunion.

Update, Aug 2007.  I am going to an Aunt’s birthday party this weekend.  She will be 72 and will see my 2 other Aunts, my Uncle Bob and many cousins. These are Dad’s side.  My Brother(Mom’s side)was just thru here on vacation and spent 3 days visiting.  We went to see my 89 year old aunt and had a get together with 2 cousins one evening. In Oct I plan to visit my Sis.  We keep in constant touch. So some reunions go great. Hopefully yours will too.

Update Nov 2008. I have just been out to my Sis in Oregon.  Had a wonderful time. MY brother in Ca. hasn’t been thru this summer nor did I get to go out there but we stay in contact thru email.  My Brother in Wash. State was thru and got to eat supper with him and his wife one evening. Have talked to my other brother in Tx. Other Aunts, cousins and neices I stay in contact with thru email or by phone. Unfortunally got to see several cousins this past Sunday when we attended the funeral for my cousin Frank’s wife. I did get to meet Frank’s boy who lives in NY.  I enjoyed meeting him. I still have some neices whom I have not met and several cousins. The pits of having such a large family and scattered everywhere.
